Description: The SNP-collection emanates from a Nordic collaborative project called SNP (Samnordisk planteforedling) and funded by Nordic grants (through the Nordic Council of Ministers). In 1987 – 1989 a joint Nordic barley project was carried out (see SNP 1982, for background and Nurminiemi et al. 1995, 1996 for material and methods) testing 220 spring barley lines of Nordic origin. The aim of the collaboration was to investigate yield stability and genotype by environment interaction in a set of barley breeding lines and cultivars. The 220 lines cover largely the variation within the Nordic barley cultivars until the mid-1980s. Field trials were carried out in all Nordic countries 1987 - 1989 with extensive phenotypic data (e.g. heading day, lodging, height, mildew resistance, ripening day, yield components, harvest index and protein content) and detailed climatic data recorded from the different locations, resulting in data from 18 distinct environments.; Crop: barley; Acronym: SNP; Scope: ngb
