Group name: NGB_Barley cv. Bonus near isogenic lines
Note: Collection: NGB_Barley cv. Bonus near isogenic lines. Description: Already during the 1970-ies many different barley genes and induced mutations have been collected in different research centers, and the demand for isogenic lines with a common genetic background became very obvious. Many of the genes and mutants were isolated in many different cultivars, mostly just the best cultivar that was used in plant breeding in the region at the time. Therefore the Swedish barley researchers Göran Persson and Louis Lehmann at the Swedish Seed Association in Svalöv, Sweden, collected several known genes from the Barley Stock Center at that time in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA, and also included some important Swedish chlorophyll mutants. The stocks cover the most important genes that are localized in the seven barley chromosomes. They backcrossed different barley genetic stocks into the Swedish barley cultivar ‘Sv Bonus’. At that time this was the most cultivated and high yielding cultivar in Scandinavia. The lines have been checked for the correct phenotype and their homozygosity. After the multiplication in 1990 the accessions became incorporated in the Nordic Genetic Resource Center (NordGen) and they are available for distribution.; Crop: barley; Acronym: Bonus NIL; Scope: ngb
