Narrative
Belle de Boskoops History and usage:
Belle de Boskoop is originally from Netherlands from Boskoop. Belle de Boskoop is a mutation of Reinette de Montfort formed 1856. It has been known in Denmark since 1882. The cultivar is or has been grown widely in Denmark. Belle de Boskoop was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 2007. Belle de Boskoop is or has been suitable for growing in orchards/in gardens. The apple is a culinary apple. Belle de Boskoop grows at the Pometum.
The tree:
The yield is high. Belle de Boskoop was evaluated under unsprayed conditions in southern Germany in the years 1997 - 1999. Belle de Boskoop had no scab on the apples, scab attack on a few leaves og mildew attack on approx. 25% of the shoots. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots/older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are large with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is triploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 3/5/2.
The quality and season of the apple:
The season of the apple is late, to enjoy from November/December. Belle de Boskoop is mature for harvesting late (last part of Oktober). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is very juicy/dry/medium juicy with a medium/a weak sweetness, strong acidity and much/some aroma. The acid content in the juice is 1,05 %. The sugar content in the juice is 15,0 %. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Belle de Boskoop is evaluated as not so good/medium good/good. The apple stores for a very long time.
The external of the apple:
The apple is medium to big with a length of 68 mm and a diameter of 73 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose conical/conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 0 %/25 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush. The surface of the skin is russeted. The lenticells are large. The colour of the lenticells appear light brown in relation to the groundcolour and lightbrown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is very long/medium size and thick, approx. 22 mm long and approx. 3,5 mm thick. The cavity is deep, with a complete cover of russet. The basin is deep/medium deep, and the eye is medium size/large and half open. The basin is a little ribbed.
The internal of the apple:
When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube. The diameter of the core is approx. 25mm. The core fill out approx. 0,34 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are medium sized and redbrown. The skin is thick and the fruit flesh has a yellowish colour. The flesh is medium firm/hard with a course/medium fine texture. The flesh has a strong/a medium tendency to browning when cut.
