Narrative
Donor description: This is a very productive and very early potato variety, resistance to diseases is like other potato varieties which has been cultivated by Vaarala farm (Pito, Puikula, Siikli, Rosamunda). It has been cultivated only and especially as earlies, and it has always given the first potatoes. Never cultivated as potatoes for winter storage. When cultivated in a heavy soil, the colour of the tubers is a bit lighter than cultivated in sandy soil (then violet). Flowers are blue-violet. The taste is average, it is a mealy potato, but also firm. Cultivar facts: The name translated from Finish is: Norwegian ship potato. Nowadays this is a rare variety at Posio and it is in danger to disappear. It was donated to NordGen in 2014 via the Finnish national program for plant genetic resources at MTT.
