Narrative
Dronning Louises History and usage:
Dronning Louise is originally from Denmark, Sealand, Landlyst by the town of Vordingborg. Dronning Louise is a seedling of Filippa x Flaskeæble formed in1892. The variety has been known in Denmark since 1894, it is/ or has been grown to some extent in Denmark. Dronning Louise was recommended for growing in Denmark in year 1965 and is / or has been suitable for growing in orchards and in gardens. The apple is a dessert apple. Dronning Louise grows at the Pometum.
The tree:
The tree has a weak, drooping growth. The yield is low. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og sensitive towards apple cancer. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the blossoms at the balloon stage is light pink, the floweringtime is early. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 7/9.
The quality and season of the apple:
The season of the apple is late, to enjoy from November/December. Dronning Louise is mature for harvesting late (last part of Oktober)/middle early (last part of September). The apple has an average- to little attractive appearance. The flesh is dry to medium juicy with a strong to medium sweetness, weak/medium acidity with a moderately strong aroma. The acid content in the juice is 0,66 %. The sugar content in the juice is 13,0 %. The apple has only a small tendency to bruise. The overall flavour of Dronning Louise is evaluated as good.
The external of the apple:
The apple is small to medium/medium sized with a length of 60 mm and a diameter of 61 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose conical/conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is green. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 50 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush. The surface of the skin is russeted. The colour of the lenticells appear light brown in relation to the groundcolour and white/lightbrown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is very long and thin, approx. 25 mm long and approx. 1,9 mm thick. The cavity is medium deep, with a complete cover of russet. The basin is medium deep/shallow/deep, and the eye is large/small and open/closed. The basin is a little ribbed.
