Narrative

Edle Wendelborgs History and usage
Edle Wendelborg is a seedling originally from Denmark. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Edle Wendelborg grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup.

The tree:
The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Edle Wendelborg was evaluated under unsprayed conditions the period of 2006-2009. The variety had scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no apple canker on the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, flyspeck/soothy blotch on approx. 25 % fruits and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 1/16b.

The quality and season of the apple
The season of the apple is early, to enjoy from August. Edle Wendelborg is mature for harvesting early (last part of August). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is very juicy with a medium sweetness, weak acidity and some aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Edle Wendelborg is evaluated as good.

The external of the apple
The apple is big with a length of 63 mm and a diameter of 76 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose conical and a little asymmetrical. There are cracks on the fruit. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour covers approx. 0 % of the apple. The surface of the skin is smooth. The stalk is long and medium thick, approx. 18 mm long and approx. 2,1 mm thick. The cavity is medium deep, with some russet. The basin is shallow, and the eye is medium size and open. The basin is a little ribbed.
