Narrative
Else Lindstows History and usage
Else Lindstow is a seedling originally from Denmark, a cross between Cox Orange x Transparente blanche. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. The apple is a dessert apple. Else Lindstow grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup.
The tree
The cultivar is sensitive towards apple scab, sensitive towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Else Lindstow was evaluated under unsprayed conditions in the period of 2006-2009 . Else Lindstow got scab attack on approx. half of the leaves, no scab attack on the apples, apple canker on only a few branches, mildew attack on approx. half of the shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are free. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 1/5.
The quality and season of the apple
The season of the apple is very early, to enjoy from July. Else Lindstow is mature for harvesting extremely early (end of July). The overall flavour of Else Lindstow is evaluated as very good. The apple stores for a very short time.
