Pigeon fra Maribos History and usage
Pigeon fra Maribo is a seedling originally from Denmark, Lolland. It is also known under the synonyms Pigeon fra Juellinge. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. The apple is a dessert apple. Pigeon fra Maribo grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup.

The tree
The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple canker. Pigeon fra Maribo was evaluated under unsprayed conditions in the period of 2006-2009. Pigeon fra Maribo had no scab on the leaves, no scab attack on the fruiut, no apple canker on the branches, mildew attack on approx. 25% of the shoots, very few fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 7/11.

The quality and season of the apple
The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Pigeon fra Maribo is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September). The apple has more than an average/an average attractive appearance. The flesh is dry/very juicy with a strong/a weak sweetness, weak/strong acidity and much/none or a weak aroma. The acid content in the juice is 0,60 %. The sugar content in the juice is 11,3 %. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Pigeon fra Maribo is evaluated as medium good.

The external of the apple
The apple is medium sized with a length of 57 mm and a diameter of 62 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 50 % of the apple. It forms a a solid flush with strongly defined stripes/a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is greasy. The colour of the lenticells appear white/brown in relation to the groundcolour and lightbrown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is medium size and medium thick, approx. 10 mm long and approx. 2,8 mm thick. The stalk is swollen. The cavity is medium deep, with a complete cover of russet. The basin is medium deep, and the eye is medium size and closed. The basin is none or very small ribbed.
