Ferskenrødt Sommeræbles History and usage
Ferskenrødt Sommeræble is most likely originally from France, It is a seedling formed before 1839. Ferskenrødt Sommeræble has been known in Denmark since 1903. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark It was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1953. Ferskenrødt Sommeræble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup.
The tree:
The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Ferskenrødt Sommeræble was evaluated under unsprayed conditions in the period of 2006-2009 it had scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on approx. 25% of the shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is yellowish pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are large with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 3/8.
The quality and season of the apple
The season of the apple is early, to enjoy from August. Ferskenrødt Sommeræble is mature for harvesting very early (first part of August). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, weak acidity and some aroma. The apple has a big tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Ferskenrødt Sommeræble is evaluated as medium good. The apple stores for a very short time.
The external of the apple
The apple is medium to big with a length of 60 mm and a diameter of 71 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose conical and a little asymmetrical. There are cracks on the fruit. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 75 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush/a solid flush with weakly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is waxy. The colour of the lenticells appear brown in relation to the groundcolour and white/brown in relation to the covercolour. Eventual rings around the lenticells appear green in relation to the groundcolour and dark red in relation to the covercolour. The cavity is medium deep, with some russet. The basin is medium deep, and the eye is medium size/large and half open/closed. The basin is a little ribbed.
