Filippas History and usage
Filippa is a seedling of Flaskeæble x ? formed 1850. Originally from Denmark, Southfunen, Hundstrup, Filippa has been known in Denmark since 1889. The variety is or has been grown widely in Denmark. Filippa was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1987. Filippa is or has been suitable for growing in orchards/in gardens. The apple is a dessert/culinary/cider apple. Filippa grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup

The tree
The tree has a vigorous, drooping growth. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Filippa was evaluated under unsprayed conditions in the period of 2006-2009. Filippa got no scab on the leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, no shoots with mildew, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are free. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 7/24.

The quality and season of the apple
The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Filippa is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September). The apple has only a little attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy/very juicy with a medium sweetness, weak acidity and much/some aroma. God, særegen aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Filippa is evaluated as very good/medium good. The apple stores for a medium time.

The external of the apple
The apple is big with a length of 67 mm and a diameter of 79 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 0 %/25 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush. The surface of the skin is waxy. The colour of the lenticells appear white/brown in relation to the groundcolour and brown in relation to the covercolour. Eventual rings around the lenticells appear green in relation to the groundcolour and red in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is very long and medium thick, approx. 22 mm long and approx. 2,1 mm thick. The cavity is deep, with some russet. The basin is medium deep/deep, and the eye is medium size/small and open/closed/half open. The basin is a little ribbed.
