Pigeon fra Juellinges History and usage
Pigeon fra Juellinge is as seedling originally from Denmark It is identical to the variety called Pigeon fra Maribo, it is difficult to say which name came first. Pigeon fra Juellinge has been known in Denmark since 1930. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Pigeon fra Juellinge was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1940. Pigeon fra Juellinge grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup

The tree
The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Pigeon fra Juellinge was evaluated under unsprayed conditions in the period of 2006-2009, It attrackted scab on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on approx. 25% of the shoots, very few fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are free. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 7/11.

The quality and season of the apple
The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Pigeon fra Juellinge is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September). The apple has an average attractive appearance.

The external of the apple
The apple is medium to big with a length of 67 mm and a diameter of 67 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose conical/conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 75 % of the apple. It forms a a solid flush with strongly defined stripes/a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is smooth. There are only few/some lenticells. The lenticells are medium sized. The colour of the lenticells appear greyish white in relation to the groundcolour and brown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is short/medium size and thick, approx. 8 mm long and approx. 4,0 mm thick. The stalk is swollen. The cavity is medium deep, with a complete cover of russet. The basin is medium deep, and the eye is medium size and closed. The basin is a little ribbed.
