Skovfogeds History and usage:
Skovfoged is a seedling, formed 1830, originally from Denmark, Sealand, Lov by the town Vordingborg. It is also known under the synonyms Skovfogedæble fra Lov. Skovfoged has been known in Denmark since 1877. The variety is or has been grown to some extent in Denmark. Skovfoged was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1984. Skovfoged is or has been suitable for growing in orchards/in gardens. The apple is a dessert apple. Skovfoged grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup.

The tree:
The tree has a weak/moderate, spreading growth. The yield is medium/low. The cultivar is sensitive towards apple scab, robust towards apple mildew og sensitive towards apple cancer. Skovfoged was evaluated under unsprayed conditions in the period of 2006-2009, Skovfoged had scab attack on almost half of the leaves, no scab attack on the apples, fruit cancer on almost half of the branches, mildew attack on approx. 25% of the shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is yellowish pink, the blossom is early/in the middle of the season. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 3/7.

The quality and season of the apple:
The season of the apple is early, to enjoy from August. Skovfoged is mature for harvesting early (last part of August). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is very juicy with a weak sweetness, medium acidity and none or a weak aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Skovfoged is evaluated as medium good. The apple stores for a very short time.

The external of the apple:
The apple is medium sized with a length of 65 mm and a diameter of 62 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is oblong and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 100 %/75 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush/a solid flush with weakly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is smooth. The colour of the lenticells appear light brown in relation to the basecolour and lightbrown in relation to the covercolour. Eventual rings around the lenticells appear green in relation to the groundcolour and brown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long and medium thick, approx. 13 mm long and approx. 2,5 mm thick. The cavity is medium deep, with a complete cover of russet. The basin is medium deep, and the eye is medium size/large and closed. The basin is a little ribbed.
