Løgæbles History and usage:
Løgæble is a seedling formed before 1653. Løgæble has been known in Denmark since 1795. The variety is or has been grown occasionally in Denmark. Løgæble was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1936. Løgæble is or has been suitable for growing in orchards. Løgæble grows at the Pometum.
The tree:
The yield is medium. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og robust towards apple cancer. Løgæble was evaluated under unsprayed conditions in the period of 2006-2009, Løgæble had scab attack on very few leaves, scab attack on only a few apples, fruit cancer on approx. 25% of the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season/late. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 3/40.
The quality and season of the apple:
The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Løgæble is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September). The apple has a not very attractive appearance. The flesh is dry with a medium sweetness, medium acidity and none or a weak aroma. Smager lidt af stikkelsbær. The apple has only a small tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Løgæble is evaluated as medium good.
The external of the apple:
The apple is small to medium with a length of 40 mm and a diameter of 57 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat/flat-globose and symmetric. The groundcolour of the apple is yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 50 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush. The surface of the skin is russeted. There are some lenticells. The lenticells are medium sized. The colour of the lenticells appear brown in relation to the basecolour and lightbrown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long and thin, approx. 15 mm long and approx. 1,8 mm thick. The cavity is medium deep, with a complete cover of russet. The basin is shallow/deep, and the eye is medium size/large and half open. The basin is none or very small ribbed.
