Maglemer Røds History and usage:
Maglemer Rød is originally from Denmark. It is also known under the synonym Rød Maglemer. Maglemer Rød is a mutation. A red clone of Maglemer. The variety is or has been grown to some extent in Denmark. Maglemer Rød is or has been suitable for growing in orchards/in gardens. The apple is a dessert apple. Maglemer Rød grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup.
The tree:
The tree has a moderate, spreading growth. The cultivar is robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og sensitive towards apple cancer. Maglemer Rød was evaluated under unsprayed conditions in the period of 2006-2009. Maglemer Rød had scab attack on approx. 25% of the leaves, scab attack on approx. 25% of the apples, fruit canker on almost half of the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are free/are touching each other.
The quality and season of the apple:
The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Maglemer Rød is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is very juicy with a weak sweetness, medium acidity and none or a weak aroma, a slight raspberry aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Maglemer Rød is evaluated as medium good. The apple stores for a medium time.
The external of the apple:
The apple is small with a length of 46 mm and a diameter of 53 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 50 % of the apple. It forms a a solid flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is smooth. The colour of the lenticells appear white/green in relation to the basecolour and white in relation to the covercolour. Eventual rings around the lenticells appear light in relation to the groundcolour and dark red in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long and medium thick, approx. 13 mm long and approx. 2,4 mm thick. The cavity is medium deep, without russet. The basin is medium deep, and the eye is large and closed. The basin is a little ribbed.
