Ildrød Eilstrups History and usage Ildrød Eilstrup is originally from Denmark Ildrød Eilstrup is a seedling, The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Ildrød Eilstrup grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Tølløse Slot/Gl. Estrup. The tree The yield is medium. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Ildrød Eilstrup got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Ildrød Eilstrup got scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, no shoots with mildew, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is very late. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 1/2. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Ildrød Eilstrup is mature for harvesting middle to late (first part of Oktober). The apple has a very attractive appearance. The flesh is dry with a strong sweetness, medium acidity and some aroma. The overall flavour of Ildrød Eilstrup is evaluated as good. The apple stores for a very long time. The external of the apple The apple is medium to big with a length of 53 mm and a diameter of 66 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose and symmetric. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is dark red. The covercolour covers approx. 75 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush/a solid flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is smooth/waxy. There are some lenticells. The lenticells are large. The colour of the lenticells appear green in relation to the groundcolour and brown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long and medium thick, approx. 14 mm long and approx. 2,9 mm thick. The stalk of the center fruit has often a fleshy knob in the cavity. The cavity is medium deep, without russet. The basin is none or very small ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted in the middle/near the margin of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube/end at the margin of the tube. The core is hearth shaped. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look closed. The diameter of the core is approx. 23mm. The core fill out approx. 0,35 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are medium sized and redbrown. The skin is thick and the fruit flesh has a white colour. The flesh has a weak tendency to browning when cut.
