Høve Reinets History and usage Høve Reinet is originally from Denmark from Sealand from Høve ved Dalmose i Sydvestsjælland It is also known under the synonyms Høveæble. Høve Reinet is a seedling, formed 1870. Høve Reinet has been known in Denmark since 1935. The variety is or has been grown to some extent in Denmark. Høve Reinet was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1962. Høve Reinet is or has been suitable for growing in orchards/in gardens. The apple is a culinary apple. Høve Reinet grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup/Blomstergårdens Pomet. The tree The tree has a vigorous, drooping growth. The yield is high/medium. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Høve Reinet got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Høve Reinet got scab attack on very few leaves, scab attack on approx. 25% of the apples, fruit cancer on only a few branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season/early. The flowers are large with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 1/16b. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is very late, to enjoy from January. Høve Reinet is mature for harvesting middle to late (first part of Oktober)/middle early (last part of September). The apple has an average/only a little attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy/very juicy with a weak/a medium sweetness, medium acidity and none or a weak/some aroma. The acid content in the juice is 0,79 %. The sugar content in the juice is 13,5 %. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Høve Reinet is evaluated as medium good/good. The apple stores for a very long time. The external of the apple The apple is very big/big to very big with a length of 73 mm and a diameter of 86 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose conical/conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is orange. The covercolour covers approx. 25 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush. The surface of the skin is greasy/russeted. The colour of the lenticells appear light brown/brown in relation to the groundcolour and white/brown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long and thick, approx. 18 mm long and approx. 3,2 mm thick. The cavity is deep, with a complete cover of russet. The basin is deep, and the eye is medium size and half open/open. The basin is a little ribbed.
