Hørningsholms History and usage Hørningsholm is originally from Denmark Hørningsholm is a seedling, The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Hørningsholm grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The cultivar is robust towards apple scab, sensitive towards apple mildew og robust towards apple cancer. Hørningsholm got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Hørningsholm got scab attack on approx. 25% of the leaves, no scab attack on the apples, fruit cancer on approx. 25% of the branches, mildew attack on almost half of the shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are large with petals, that are free. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 7/?. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is early, to enjoy from August. Hørningsholm is mature for harvesting very early (first part of August). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a weak sweetness, medium acidity and some aroma. The flesh has a bad distaste. The overall flavour of Hørningsholm is evaluated as medium good. The external of the apple The apple is medium to big with a length of 60 mm and a diameter of 69 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is green. The covercolour is redbrown. The covercolour covers approx. 50 % of the apple. It forms a a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is smooth. There are many lenticells. The lenticells are large. The colour of the lenticells appear white in relation to the groundcolour and greyish white in relation to the covercolour. The cavity is shallow, with some russet. The basin is distinctly ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted near the margin of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube. The core is obloid. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look open. The diameter of the core is approx. 29mm. The core fill out approx. 0,42 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are medium sized and brown. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a greenish colour. The flesh has a weak tendency to browning when cut.
