Hvidkilde Voksæbles History and usage Hvidkilde Voksæble is originally from Denmark from Funen from Hvidkilde ved Svendborg Hvidkilde Voksæble is a seedling, of Hvid vinter Pigeon formed 1835. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Hvidkilde Voksæble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup/Blomstergårdens Pomet. The tree The yield is low. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Hvidkilde Voksæble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Hvidkilde Voksæble got scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on approx. 25% of the shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is yellowish pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are small with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 3/9. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Hvidkilde Voksæble is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September). The apple has more than an average attractive appearance. The flesh is very juicy with a medium sweetness, weak acidity and much aroma. The apple has only a small tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Hvidkilde Voksæble is evaluated as very good. The external of the apple The apple is small to medium with a length of 65 mm and a diameter of 64 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose conical/conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour covers approx. 0 % of the apple. There are many lenticells. The lenticells are medium sized. The basin is shallow/medium deep, and the eye is small and half open. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is funnel-shaped/conical and the stamens are inserted in the middle/near the margin of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube/end at the margin of the tube. The core is hearth shaped/ellipsoid. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look open. The skin is thin and the fruit flesh has a yellowish colour. The flesh is medium firm with a course texture. The flesh has a medium tendency to browning when cut.
