Hugonæbles History and usage Hugonæble is originally from Denmark Hugonæble is a seedling, of Maglemer x Skovfoged The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Hugonæble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Hugonæble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Hugonæble got no scab on the leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, very few fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink/purple, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 3/6. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is early, to enjoy from August. Hugonæble is mature for harvesting very early (first part of August). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, weak acidity and none or a weak aroma. The overall flavour of Hugonæble is evaluated as medium good. The external of the apple The apple is very small to small with a length of 39 mm and a diameter of 45 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is ellipsoid/ovate and very asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is green. The covercolour is dark red. The covercolour covers approx. 75 % of the apple. It forms a flushed, striped and mottled. The surface of the skin is smooth. There are only few lenticells. The lenticells are medium sized. The colour of the lenticells appear dark green in relation to the groundcolour and greyish white in relation to the covercolour. The cavity is medium deep, without russet. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other. The core is ellipsoid. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look closed. The diameter of the core is approx. 15mm. The core fill out approx. 0,32 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are medium sized and beige. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a greenish colour. The flesh has a weak tendency to browning when cut.
