Holmeæbles History and usage Holmeæble is originally from Denmark from central Jutland from Holme ved Aarhus Holmeæble is a seedling, formed 1815. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Holmeæble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup/Randers Regnskov. The tree The yield is medium. The canopy density is fair. The cultivar is robust towards apple scab, sensitive towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Holmeæble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Holmeæble got scab attack on approx. 25% of the leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on approx. half of the shoots, flyspeck/soothy blotch on approx. 25 % fruits and very few shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 28/31. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Holmeæble is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is very juicy/dry with a medium sweetness, weak/medium acidity and some/none or a weak aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Holmeæble is evaluated as medium good/good. The external of the apple The apple is medium to big with a length of 70 mm and a diameter of 79 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose conical/globose conical/conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow/yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 50 %/75 % of the apple. It forms a a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is greasy. There are only few/some lenticells. The lenticells are small/large. The stalk of the center fruit has often a fleshy knob in the cavity. The basin is medium deep, and the eye is small and closed/half open. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical/funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted in the middle/at the base of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other/end at the middle of the tube. The core is hearth shaped. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look open. The diameter of the core is approx. 52mm. The core fill out approx. 0,66 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The skin is thin/medium thick and the fruit flesh has a yellowish colour. The flesh is soft with a medium fine texture. The flesh has a weak tendency to browning when cut.
