Svindingeæbles History and usage Svindingeæble is originally from Denmark from Funen from Svindinge ved Nyborg Svindingeæble is a seedling, formed 1850. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Svindingeæble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The yield is medium. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Svindingeæble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Svindingeæble got scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on approx. 25% of the shoots, very few fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is very late/late. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 7/20. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Svindingeæble is mature for harvesting middle to late (first part of Oktober). The apple has only a little attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, weak acidity and some aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Svindingeæble is evaluated as not so good. The external of the apple The apple is medium sized with a length of 60 mm and a diameter of 65 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose conical/conical and symmetric. There are cracks on the fruit. The groundcolour of the apple is yellow. The covercolour covers approx. 0 % of the apple. The surface of the skin is greasy. There are some lenticells. The lenticells are large. The stalk is short/medium size and thick, approx. 10 mm long and approx. 4,3 mm thick. The cavity is medium deep, with some russet. The basin is medium deep/shallow, and the eye is medium size and half open/closed. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other/end at the middle of the tube. The diameter of the core is approx. 24mm. The core fill out approx. 0,37 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are medium sized and brown. The flesh is soft with a medium fine texture. The flesh has a strong tendency to browning when cut.
