Narrative

Thyregod Kalvils History and usage Thyregod Kalvil is originally from Denmark from the southern Denmark from Tyregod eller Fyn It is also known under the synonyms Fynsk Æble. Thyregod Kalvil is a seedling, formed 1800. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Thyregod Kalvil grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup/Randers Regnskov. The tree The yield is high/medium. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, sensitive towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Thyregod Kalvil got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Thyregod Kalvil got scab attack on very few leaves, scab attack on only a few apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on almost half of the shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Thyregod Kalvil is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, weak acidity and some aroma. The apple has a big tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Thyregod Kalvil is evaluated as good. The external of the apple The apple is medium to big/medium sized with a length of 65/63 mm and a diameter of 70/73 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose conical/conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is dark red/purple. The covercolour covers approx. 75 % of the apple. It forms a a solid flush with strongly defined stripes/a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is greasy. There are some lenticells. The lenticells are medium sized/large. The colour of the lenticells appear light brown in relation to the groundcolour and brown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is very long and medium thick, approx. 21 mm long and approx. 2 mm thick. The basin is very distinctly ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical/funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted at the base/in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other/end at the middle of the tube. The core is hearth shaped. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look open/half open. The diameter of the core is approx. 35/46mm. The core fill out approx. 0,5/0,63 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The skin is thin and the fruit flesh has a greenish colour. The flesh is soft with a medium fine texture. The flesh has a strong tendency to browning when cut.
