Knud Lunns History and usage Knud Lunn is originally from Denmark from Sealand from Knabstrup hovedgaard ved Holbæk Knud Lunn is a seedling, formed 1865. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. The apple is a culinary apple. Knud Lunn grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The yield is medium. The cultivar is sensitive towards apple scab, sensitive towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Knud Lunn got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Knud Lunn got scab attack on almost half of the leaves, scab on a little more than half of the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on almost half of the shoots, very few fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is purple, the blossom is in the middle of the season/early. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 3/40. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is very late, to enjoy from January. Knud Lunn is mature for harvesting middle to late (first part of Oktober). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, medium acidity and some aroma. The apple has only a small tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Knud Lunn is evaluated as medium good. The external of the apple The apple is big to very big/big with a length of 71 mm and a diameter of 93 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 0 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush. The surface of the skin is smooth. There are many lenticells. The lenticells are large. The basin is medium deep, and the eye is small and open. The basin is very distinctly ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical/funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted in the middle/at the base of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube/end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other/end at the margin of the tube. The core is hearth shaped. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look open. The diameter of the core is approx. 46mm. The core fill out approx. 0,49 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The skin is thick and the fruit flesh has a white colour. The flesh is hard with a course texture. The flesh has a medium tendency to browning when cut.
