Venus History and usage Venus is originally from Denmark from central Jutland from Holstebro It is also known under the synonyms Møllers Venus, Venusæble. Venus is a seedling, formed 1848. Venus has been known in Denmark since 1878. The variety is or has been grown occasionally in Denmark. Venus is or has been suitable for growing in orchards. The apple is a dessert apple. Venus grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Randers Regnskov/Blomstergårdens Pomet. The tree The tree has a moderate, upright growth. The yield is high. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 3/33. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is late, to enjoy from November/December. Venus is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September). The apple has more than an average attractive appearance. The flesh is dry with a strong sweetness, weak acidity and none or a weak/some aroma. The overall flavour of Venus is evaluated as medium good. The apple stores for a long time. The external of the apple The apple is small to medium with a length of 62 mm and a diameter of 72 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose conical The groundcolour of the apple is yellow. The covercolour covers approx. 0 % of the apple. The basin is shallow/medium deep, and the eye is small/large and closed/half open. The basin is fairly ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted at the base/in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other/end at the base of the tube, and touch each other/end at the middle of the tube. The core is hearth shaped. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look half open. The diameter of the core is approx. 45mm. The core fill out approx. 0,63 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are large and brown. The skin is thick and the fruit flesh has a yellowish colour. The flesh is hard with a fine texture.
