Virumgårds History and usage Virumgård is originally from Denmark from the capitol region from Virum i Nordsjælland Virumgård is a seedling, The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Virumgård is or has been suitable for growing in gardens. The apple is a culinary apple. Virumgård grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The yield is high. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Virumgård got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Virumgård got scab attack on very few leaves, scab attack on approx. 25% of the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, very few fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is triploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 3/4/28. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Virumgård is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is very juicy with a weak sweetness, strong acidity and much aroma. The overall flavour of Virumgård is evaluated as medium good. The apple stores for a long time. The external of the apple The apple is very big with a length of 87 mm and a diameter of 103 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose and symmetric. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is orange. The covercolour covers approx. 0 %/25 % of the apple. The surface of the skin is smooth/greasy. There are only few/some lenticells. The lenticells are medium sized. The colour of the lenticells appear dark green in relation to the groundcolour and brown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long/very long and medium thick, approx. 20 mm long and approx. 2,9 mm thick. The stalk of the center fruit has often a fleshy knob in the cavity. The cavity is medium deep, with some russet. The basin is none or very small ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical/funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube/end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other. The core is onion shaped. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look open. The diameter of the core is approx. 29mm. The core fill out approx. 0,28 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are medium sized and brown. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a white colour. The flesh has a weak tendency to browning when cut.
