Nørregårds Æbles History and usage Nørregårds Æble is originally from Denmark from Lolland from Nørregård under Hardenberg ved Nakskov Nørregårds Æble is a seedling, of Pigeonnet blanc d´hiver x ? formed 1911. Nørregårds Æble has been known in Denmark since 1911. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Nørregårds Æble was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1940. Nørregårds Æble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The canopy density is fair. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Nørregårds Æble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Nørregårds Æble got scab attack on very few leaves, scab attack on only a few apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, flyspeck/soothy blotch on approx. half of the fruits and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is yellowish pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 1/7. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is late, to enjoy from November/December. Nørregårds Æble is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, weak acidity and none or a weak aroma. The apple has only a small tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Nørregårds Æble is evaluated as medium good. The external of the apple The apple is medium sized with a length of 72 mm and a diameter of 64 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is long-conical/ovate/oblong-conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour covers approx. 0 % of the apple. The surface of the skin is greasy. The stalk is long and thick, approx. 12 mm long and approx. 3,6 mm thick. The stalk is swollen. The cavity is shallow, without russet. The basin is medium deep/deep, and the eye is large and half open/open. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is funnel-shaped/conical and the stamens are inserted in the middle/at the base of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube/end at the margin of the tube. The core is onion shaped. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look open. The diameter of the core is approx. 24mm. The core fill out approx. 0,38 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are small and brown. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a white colour. The flesh is medium firm with a fine texture. The flesh has a strong tendency to browning when cut.
