Rødby Æbles History and usage Rødby Æble is originally from Denmark from Lolland from Rødby på Lolland Rødby Æble is a seedling, formed 1840. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. The apple is a dessert apple. Rødby Æble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The yield is medium. The canopy density is good. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Rødby Æble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Rødby Æble got scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 2/7. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is early, to enjoy from August. Rødby Æble is mature for harvesting early (last part of August). The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, medium acidity and none or a weak aroma. The apple has a big tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Rødby Æble is evaluated as medium good. The external of the apple The apple is big The shape is flat/flat-globose and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour covers approx. 0 % of the apple. The surface of the skin is smooth. The basin is deep, and the eye is small and half open. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical/funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted in the middle/near the margin of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a greenish colour. The flesh is medium firm with a course texture. The flesh has no tendency to browning when cut.
