Guldborgs History and usage Guldborg is originally from Denmark from Lolland from Guldborg, Lolland It is also known under the synonyms Guldborgæble. Guldborg is a seedling, of Maglemer formed 1870. Guldborg has been known in Denmark since 1911. The variety is or has been grown widely in Denmark. Guldborg was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 2007. Guldborg is or has been suitable for growing in orchards/in gardens. The apple is a dessert apple. Guldborg grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup/Blomstergårdens Pomet. The tree The tree has a weak, spreading growth. The yield is low. The cultivar is robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Guldborg got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Guldborg got scab attack on approx. 25% of the leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at both young and older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season/early. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 3/11. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is early, to enjoy from August. Guldborg is mature for harvesting early (last part of August). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy/very juicy with a medium sweetness, medium acidity and much aroma. The apple has only a small tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Guldborg is evaluated as good. The apple stores for a short time. The external of the apple The apple is medium to big with a length of 65 mm and a diameter of 68 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose conical/conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 25 % of the apple. It forms a a solid flush with strongly defined stripes/a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is smooth. The colour of the lenticells appear white/brown in relation to the groundcolour and lightbrown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long and thick, approx. 12 mm long and approx. 3,3 mm thick. The cavity is medium deep, with a complete cover of russet. The basin is medium deep/shallow, and the eye is large/medium size and half open/closed. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical/funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted in the middle/at the base of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube/end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other/end at the base of the tube, and touch each other. The core is hearth shaped/onion shaped. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look half open/open. The diameter of the core is approx. 26mm.
