Mølleskovs History and usage Mølleskov is originally from Denmark from Sealand from Mølleskoven ved Ringsted It is also known under the synonyms Mølleskovæble. Mølleskov is a seedling, formed 1840. Mølleskov has been known in Denmark since 1896. The variety is or has been grown to some extent in Denmark. Mølleskov was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1957. Mølleskov is or has been suitable for growing in orchards/in gardens. The apple is a dessert/culinary apple. Mølleskov grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Blomstergårdens Pomet. The tree The tree has a moderate, upright growth. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 7/24. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is late, to enjoy from November/December. Mølleskov is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September). The apple has more than an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a weak sweetness, medium acidity and none or a weak aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Mølleskov is evaluated as medium good. The apple stores for a long time. The external of the apple The apple is medium to big with a length of 71 mm and a diameter of 68 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is orange. The covercolour covers approx. 0 %/25 % of the apple. It forms a a solid flush with weakly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is greasy. The lenticells are large. The colour of the lenticells appear green/brown in relation to the groundcolour and brown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long and medium thick, approx. 17 mm long and approx. 2,2 mm thick. The cavity is medium deep, without russet. The basin is medium deep/deep, and the eye is medium size/large and half open/open/closed. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is funnel-shaped/conical and the stamens are inserted in the middle/at the base of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube/end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other. The core is hearth shaped/ellipsoid. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look open. The diameter of the core is approx. 29mm. The core fill out approx. 0,43 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are large and dark brown. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a yellowish colour. The flesh is medium firm with a medium fine texture. The flesh has a medium tendency to browning when cut.
