Gråsten Ramløses History and usage Gråsten Ramløse is originally from Denmark from the capitol region from Ramløse i Nordsjælland It is also known under the synonyms Gravensten, Gravensteiner, Graasten. Gråsten Ramløse is a mutation, of Gråsten The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Gråsten Ramløse is or has been suitable for growing in orchards. Gråsten Ramløse grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The tree has a vigorous, spreading growth. The cultivar is sensitive towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Gråsten Ramløse got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Gråsten Ramløse got scab attack on almost half of the leaves, scab attack on approx. 25% of the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, no shoots with mildew, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are large with petals, that are overlapping. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Gråsten Ramløse is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September). The apple has only a little attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, weak acidity and none or a weak aroma. The overall flavour of Gråsten Ramløse is evaluated as medium good. The external of the apple The apple is medium to big with a length of 68 mm and a diameter of 71 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat/flat-globose and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is dark red. The covercolour covers approx. 50 % of the apple. It forms a a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is a little rough. There are many lenticells. The lenticells are large. The colour of the lenticells appear dark green in relation to the groundcolour and greyish white/green in relation to the covercolour. The cavity is deep, with some russet. The basin is distinctly ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other/end at the margin of the tube. The core is ellipsoid. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look open. The diameter of the core is approx. 28mm. The core fill out approx. 0,40 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are medium sized/few and underdeveloped or absent and brown. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a yellowish colour. The flesh has a medium tendency to browning when cut.
