Guldæbles History and usage Guldæble is originally from Denmark Guldæble is a seedling, Guldæble has been known in Denmark since 1913. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Guldæble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The yield is medium/low. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Guldæble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Guldæble got scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, no shoots with mildew, very few fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is early/in the middle of the season. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are free. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 6/10. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Guldæble is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is very juicy with a medium sweetness, medium acidity and none or a weak aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Guldæble is evaluated as medium good. The external of the apple The apple is medium sized with a length of 50 mm and a diameter of 62 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat/flat-globose and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is orange. The covercolour covers approx. 0 % of the apple. The surface of the skin is greasy. The colour of the lenticells appear brown in relation to the groundcolour and white/brown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long and medium thick, approx. 14 mm long and approx. 2,6 mm thick. The stalk is swollen. The cavity is medium deep, with some russet. The basin is medium deep/shallow, and the eye is medium size/small and half open. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted at the base/in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other. The diameter of the core is approx. 25mm. The core fill out approx. 0,40 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are large and brown. The skin is thick and the fruit flesh has a yellowish colour. The flesh is soft with a medium fine texture. The flesh has a medium tendency to browning when cut.
