Pilehaveæbles History and usage Pilehaveæble is originally from Denmark from Lolland from Pilehave på Lolland Pilehaveæble is a seedling, formed 1800. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. The apple is a culinary apple. Pilehaveæble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The yield is high/medium. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og robust towards apple cancer. Pilehaveæble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Pilehaveæble got scab attack on very few leaves, scab attack on only a few apples, fruit cancer on approx. 25% of the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, flyspeck/soothy blotch on approx. 25 % fruits and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is very late. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 1/24. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is late, to enjoy from November/December. Pilehaveæble is mature for harvesting middle to late (first part of Oktober). The external of the apple with a length of 70 mm and a diameter of 86 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose/globose conical The covercolour covers approx. 0 %/25 % of the apple. It forms a only stripes, no flush. The basin is shallow, and the eye is small and closed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted in the middle/near the margin/at the base of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube/end at the margin of the tube. The core is obloid/onion shaped. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look half open/open. The diameter of the core is approx. 49mm. The core fill out approx. 0,57 of the cross cut of the whole apple.
