Arreskovs History and usage: Arreskov is originally from Denmark, Funen, Brændelydinge by Fåborg. It is also known under the synonyms Gråsten Arreskov, Arreskovæble. Arreskov is a seedling formed 1850. Arreskov has been known in Denmark since 1875. The variety is or has been grown to some extent in Denmark. Arreskov was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1951. Arreskov is/or has been suitable for growing in orchards and in gardens. The apple is a dessert apple. Arreskov grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup/Blomstergårdens Pomet. The tree: The tree has a vigorous, drooping growth. The cultivar is robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Arreskov got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Arreskov got scab attack on approx. 25% of the leaves, scab attack on approx. 25% of the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is late. The flowers are small with petals, that are free/are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 9/24. The quality and season of the apple: The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Arreskov is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is very juicy with a medium sweetness, medium acidity and none or a weak/some aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Arreskov is evaluated as good. The apple stores for a very short time. The external of the apple: The apple is big with a length of 68 mm and a diameter of 78 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is orange. The covercolour covers approx. 25 % of the apple. It forms a a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is smooth. The lenticells are large. The colour of the lenticells appear brown in relation to the groundcolour and brown in relation to the covercolour. Eventual rings around the lenticells appear light in relation to the groundcolour and dark red in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is short/medium size and thick, approx. 12 mm long and approx. 3,1 mm thick. The stalk is swollen. The cavity is medium deep, with a complete cover of russet. The basin is medium deep/shallow, and the eye is medium size and half open/closed. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple: When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted in the middle/at the base of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other/end at the middle of the tube.
