Barritskov Madæbles History and usage Barritskov Madæble is originally from Denmark from central Jutland from Barritskov, Juelsminde It is also known under the synonyms Barritskov æble. Barritskov Madæble is a seedling, formed 1890. Barritskov Madæble has been known in Denmark since 1890. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. The apple is a dessert/culinary apple. Barritskov Madæble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl Estrup. The tree The yield is high/medium. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Barritskov Madæble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Barritskov Madæble got scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, no shoots with mildew, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season/early. The flowers are large with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 4/20. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Barritskov Madæble is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September). The apple has a very attractive appearance. The flesh is very juicy with a strong sweetness, medium acidity and some aroma. The flesh has a bad distaste. The overall flavour of Barritskov Madæble is evaluated as very good. The apple stores for a long time. The external of the apple The apple is big to very big with a length of 76 mm and a diameter of 86 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 50 % of the apple. It forms a a solid flush with weakly defined stripes/a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is smooth. There are some lenticells. The lenticells are large. The colour of the lenticells appear green in relation to the groundcolour and white in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is medium size and thick, approx. 10 mm long and approx. 3,4 mm thick. The stalk is swollen. The cavity is medium deep, with some russet. The basin is medium deep, and the eye is small and closed/half open. The basin is distinctly ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted at the base/in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other. The core is onion shaped. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look open. The diameter of the core is approx. 29mm. The core fill out approx. 0,33 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are medium sized and brown. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a yellowish colour. The flesh has a medium tendency to browning when cut.
