Blankholms History and usage Blankholm is originally from Denmark Blankholm is a seedling, The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Blankholm is or has been suitable for growing in gardens. Blankholm grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The cultivar is sensitive towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Blankholm got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Blankholm got scab attack on approx. half of the leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, no shoots with mildew, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are large with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 2/7. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Blankholm is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a weak sweetness, medium acidity and none or a weak aroma. The apple has only a small tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Blankholm is evaluated as medium good. The external of the apple The apple is small to medium with a length of 49 mm and a diameter of 56 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat/flat-globose and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 50 % of the apple. It forms a a solid flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is greasy. The colour of the lenticells appear light brown in relation to the groundcolour and white in relation to the covercolour. Eventual rings around the lenticells appear light in relation to the groundcolour and dark red in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long and medium thick, approx. 17 mm long and approx. 2,0 mm thick. The cavity is medium deep, without russet. The basin is medium deep, and the eye is large and closed. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted at the base/in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other/end at the middle of the tube. The core is onion shaped. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look open/half open. The diameter of the core is approx. 21mm. The core fill out approx. 0,38 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are medium sized and brown. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a yellowish colour. The flesh is medium firm with a medium fine texture. The flesh has a strong tendency to browning when cut.
