Augustæble, gults History and usage:
Augustæble, gult is originally from Netherlands It is also known under the synonyms Calville Précose/Gult augustæble/Augustæble. Augustæble, gult is a seedling, formed før 1795. Augustæble, gult has been known in Denmark since 1795. The variety is or has been grown occasionally in Denmark. Augustæble, gult is or has been suitable for growing in orchards/in gardens. The apple is a dessert/culinary apple. Augustæble, gult grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup/Blomstergårdens Pomet.
The tree:
The tree has a moderate, drooping growth. The yield is low. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Augustæble, gult got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Augustæble, gult got scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, no shoots with mildew/mildew attack on very few shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots/both young and older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is purple, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are large/medium sized with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 9/24.
The quality and season of the apple:
The season of the apple is very early, to enjoy from July. Augustæble, gult is mature for harvesting extremely early (end of July). The apple has only a little attractive appearance. The flesh is dry with a medium sweetness, medium acidity and some aroma. The apple has a big tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Augustæble, gult is evaluated as not so good. The apple stores for a very short time.
The external of the apple:
The apple is medium sized The shape is globose conical/conical and very asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is green. The covercolour is redbrown. The covercolour covers approx. 0 %/25 % of the apple. The surface of the skin is smooth. There are only few/some lenticells. The lenticells are medium sized. The colour of the lenticells appear greyish white in relation to the groundcolour and brown in relation to the covercolour. The basin is shallow, and the eye is medium size and closed. The basin is distinctly ribbed.
The internal of the apple:
When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted at the base/near the margin of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, and touch each other. The pips are medium sized and brown. The skin is thick and the fruit flesh has a white colour. The flesh is soft with a course texture. The flesh has a strong tendency to browning when cut.
