Bodils Æbles History and usage Bodils Æble is originally from Denmark from the southern Denmark from Haderslevegnen It is also known under the synonyms Bodilsapfel, Schleswiger Herbst Glockenapfel. Bodils Æble is a seedling, Bodils Æble has been known in Denmark since 1895. The variety is or has been grown occasionally in Denmark. Bodils Æble is or has been suitable for growing in orchards/in gardens. The apple is a dessert apple. Bodils Æble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup/Randers Regnskov/Blomstergårdens Pomet. The tree The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Bodils Æble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Bodils Æble got no scab on the leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at both young and older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are small with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 3/11. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is early, to enjoy from August. Bodils Æble is mature for harvesting very early (first part of August). The flesh is very juicy with a medium sweetness, medium acidity and much aroma. The apple has a big tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Bodils Æble is evaluated as not so good. The apple stores for a short time. The external of the apple The apple is small to medium The shape is ellipsoid and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is green. The covercolour is redbrown. The covercolour covers approx. 50 % of the apple. It forms a a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. There are many lenticells. The lenticells are large. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is funnel-shaped/conical and the stamens are inserted near the margin/in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube. The skin is thick and the fruit flesh has a greenish colour. The flesh is medium firm with a medium fine texture.
