Group name: NGB_Barley Mutant Collection (10 seeds per distribution bag)
Note: Collection: NGB_Barley Mutant Collection (10 seeds per distribution bag). Description: The collection of barley mutants comprises about 10000 accessions and resulted from a joint Scandinavian mutation research programme. It is mainly developed from a cooperation project between the Swedish Seed Association (later Svalöf AB), Svalöv, and the Institute for Genetics at Lund University. The project was initiated already in 1928. Several spring barley cultivars have been used for the induction of mutant genes and researchers have explored different methods, variation and the broad diversity in barley. Dr. Udda Lundqvist developed and maintained the databases of the Barley Mutant Collection. The databases stored information about the origin of accessions, their development, regeneration events, and gene analyses. Descriptions of many morphological/physiological mutations in Barley and their genetic background have been published in \"Barley Genetics Newsletter\" (BGN) since the 1990s. Much information about the barley mutants that are stored at the Nordic Gene Bank has been included by Udda Lundqvist. On the initiative of the Working Group for Cereals at NGB, all descriptions and information from the publications in BGN and the reasearch databases have been converted into an "International Database for Barley Genes and Barley Genetic Stocks", is available at: https://www.nordgen.org/bgs/. Beside the information about the gentic background, many of the barley mutant characters are illustrated with images taken by Udda Lundqvist.; Remarks: The Barley Mutant Collection at NGB is frequently used for genetic research in various countries world-wide.; Crop: Barley; Acronym: mutan; Scope: ngb
