Narrative
Aromas History and usage: Aroma is originally from Sweden from Balsgård. It is also known under the synonyms Aroma Balsgaard. Aroma is a cross, of Ingrid Marie x Filippa formed 1947. Aroma has been known in Denmark since 1957. The variety is or has been grown widely in Denmark. Aroma was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 2007. Aroma is or has been suitable for growing in gardens/in orchards. The apple is a dessert/cider/culinary apple. Aroma grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Blomstergårdens Pomet. The tree: The tree has a vigorous, spreading growth. Aroma got in the years 1997 and 1999 evaluated under unsprayed conditions in southern Germany. Aroma got no scab on the apples, scab attack on a few leaves og mildew attack on very few shoots. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are large/medium sized with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 5/7. The quality and season of the apple: The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Aroma is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is very juicy with a medium/a strong sweetness, medium acidity and much aroma. The acid content in the juice is 0,71 %. The sugar content in the juice is 11,4 %. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Aroma is evaluated as good/very good. The apple stores for a medium time. The external of the apple: 4 mm and a diameter of 79 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 75 % of the apple. It forms a a solid flush with weakly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is smooth/waxy. The colour of the lenticells appear light brown in relation to the groundcolour and lightbrown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is short/medium size/long and medium thick, approx. 15 mm long and approx. 2,3 mm thick. The cavity is deep, with a complete cover of russet. The basin is medium deep, and the eye is medium size and half open. The basin is none or very small ribbed. The internal of the apple: When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical/funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted at the base/in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube. The diameter of the core is approx. 28mm. The core fill out approx. 0,35 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are small and brown. The skin is thick and the fruit flesh has a yellowish/white colour. The flesh is soft/medium firm with a medium fine/fine texture. The flesh has a medium/no tendency to browning when cut.
