Ernst Triers History and usage
Ernst Trier is a seedling originally from Denmark from Sealand, Vallekilde, Odsherred formed in 1900. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Ernst Trier grows at the Pometum.

The tree
The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are large with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is triploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 1/5/7.

The quality and season of the apple
The season of the apple is late, to enjoy from November/December. Ernst Trier is mature for harvesting late (last part of Oktober). The apple has only a little attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, medium acidity and some aroma. The flesh has a bad distaste. The overall flavour of Ernst Trier is evaluated as medium good.

The external of the apple
The apple is big with a length of 85 mm and a diameter of 78 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is oblong-conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is green. The covercolour is purple. The covercolour covers approx. 75 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush/flushed and mottled. The surface of the skin is smooth. There are many lenticells. The lenticells are large. The cavity is shallow, with some russet. The basin is a little ribbed.
