Fejø Æbles History and usage
Fejø Æble is originally from Denmark from Fejø from Vesterby på Fejø Fejø Æble is a seedling, formed 1913. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Fejø Æble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup.
The tree
The yield is medium. The canopy density is good. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Fejø Æble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Fejø Æble got scab attack on very few leaves, scab attack on only a few apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, flyspeck/soothy blotch on approx. 75 % fruits and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is late. The flowers are large with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 4/5.
The quality and season of the apple
The season of the apple is late, to enjoy from November/December. Fejø Æble is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September). The apple has only a little attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, medium acidity and none or a weak aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Fejø Æble is evaluated as medium good. The apple stores for a long time.
The external of the apple
The apple is medium to big with a length of 54 mm and a diameter of 74 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat/flat-globose and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour covers approx. 0 % of the apple. The surface of the skin is greasy. The stalk is medium size and thick, approx. 11 mm long and approx. 3,1 mm thick. The cavity is medium deep, with some russet. The basin is medium deep/deep, and the eye is large and closed/half open. The basin is distinctly ribbed.
