Ludvigsens Æbles History and usage
Ludvigsens Æble is a seedling originally from Denmark, The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Ludvigsens Æble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup.

The tree:
The yield is medium. The canopy density is good. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Ludvigsens Æble was evaluated under unsprayed conditions in the period of 2006-2009 it had scab attack on very few leaves, scab attack on only a few apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, no shoots with mildew, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is yellowish pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 10/20.

The quality and season of the apple:
The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Ludvigsens Æble is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September). The apple has only a little attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a weak sweetness, strong acidity and none or a weak aroma. The apple has only a small tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Ludvigsens Æble is evaluated as not so good.

The external of the apple:
The apple is medium sized with a length of 60 mm and a diameter of 61 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is globose conical/conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is orange. The covercolour covers approx. 25 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush. The surface of the skin is greasy. The colour of the lenticells appear white/brown in relation to the groundcolour and white/brown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is medium size and medium thick, approx. 11 mm long and approx. 2,5 mm thick. The cavity is shallow, with some russet. The basin is shallow, and the eye is medium size and half open. The basin is a little ribbed.
