Lundbytorps History and usage:
Lundbytorp is a seedling of Alm. Pigeon x ? formed 1913 originally from Denmark,Sealand, Lundbytorp i, It is also known under the synonyms Lundbytorpæble. Lundbytorp has been known in Denmark since 1936. The variety is or has been grown occasionally in Denmark. Lundbytorp was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1966. The apple is a dessert/culinary apple. Lundbytorp grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup.

The tree:
The tree has a vigorous, spreading growth. The yield is high/medium. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Lundbytorp was evaluated under unsprayed conditions in the period of 2006-2009, it had scab attack on very few leaves, scab attack on only a few apples, no fruit canker on the branches, no shoots with mildew, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is yellowish pink, the blossom is early/in the middle of the season. The flowers are small with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 7/16b.

The quality and season of the apple:
The season of the apple is very late, to enjoy from January. Lundbytorp is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September). The apple has only a little attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a weak sweetness, medium acidity and none or a weak aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Lundbytorp is evaluated as medium good. The apple stores for a very long time.

The external of the apple:
The apple is big with a length of 63 mm and a diameter of 80 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose conical and a little asymmetrical. The basecolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 50 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush. The surface of the skin is smooth. The lenticells are large. The colour of the lenticells appear brown in relation to the groundcolour and brown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long and medium thick, approx. 18 mm long and approx. 2,5 mm thick. The cavity is deep, with a complete cover of russet. The basin is medium deep/deep, and the eye is medium size/large and open. The basin is a little ribbed.
