Narrative

Sorøæbles History and usage Sorøæble is originally from Denmark from Sealand from Sorø Sorøæble is a seedling, formed 1905. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Sorøæble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The yield is medium/low. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Sorøæble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Sorøæble got scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, no shoots with mildew, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 7/16b. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is early, to enjoy from August. Sorøæble is mature for harvesting very early (first part of August). The apple has more than an average attractive appearance. The flesh is very juicy with a weak sweetness, strong acidity and none or a weak aroma. Smager af stjernefrugt. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Sorøæble is evaluated as medium good. The external of the apple The apple is big with a length of 69 mm and a diameter of 80 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose conical and a little asymmetrical. There are cracks on the fruit. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 50 % of the apple. It forms a a solid flush with strongly defined stripes/a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is waxy. The colour of the lenticells appear white in relation to the groundcolour and white/greyish white in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is very long and medium thick, approx. 22 mm long and approx. 2,5 mm thick. The cavity is deep, without russet. The basin is medium deep/deep, and the eye is medium size/small and closed. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical/funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube. The diameter of the core is approx. 33mm. The core fill out approx. 0,41 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are medium sized and brown. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a yellowish colour. The flesh is medium firm with a medium fine texture. The flesh has a medium tendency to browning when cut.
