Marselisborg Sommeræbles History and usage Marselisborg Sommeræble is originally from Denmark from central Jutland from Marselisborg ved Aarhus It is also known under the synonyms Marselisborg store Sommeræble. Marselisborg Sommeræble is a seedling, formed 1850. Marselisborg Sommeræble has been known in Denmark since 1877. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Marselisborg Sommeræble was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1926. Marselisborg Sommeræble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup/Randers Regnskov. The tree The cultivar is robust towards apple scab, sensitive towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Marselisborg Sommeræble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Marselisborg Sommeræble got scab attack on approx. 25% of the leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on almost half of the shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are small with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 10/24. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is very early, to enjoy from July. Marselisborg Sommeræble is mature for harvesting extremely early (end of July). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, strong acidity and none or a weak aroma. The apple has a big tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Marselisborg Sommeræble is evaluated as medium good. The external of the apple The apple is medium sized The shape is oblong and symmetric. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 75 % of the apple. It forms a a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is greasy. There are only few/some lenticells. The lenticells are large. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube. The pips are medium sized and beige. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a greenish colour. The flesh is medium firm with a fine texture. The flesh has a medium tendency to browning when cut.
