Ildrød Pigeons History and usage Ildrød Pigeon is originally from Denmark from Funen from Fyn It is also known under the synonyms Mørkerød Pigeon, Dueæble. Ildrød Pigeon is a mutation, formed 1800. Ildrød Pigeon has been known in Denmark since 1876. The variety is or has been grown widely in Denmark. Ildrød Pigeon was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 2007. Ildrød Pigeon is or has been suitable for growing in orchards/in gardens. The apple is a dessert apple. Ildrød Pigeon grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The tree has a weak, upright growth. The yield is medium. The canopy density is fair. The cultivar is robust towards apple scab/sensitive towards apple scab, robust towards apple mildew/very robust towards apple mildew og very senisitive towards apple cancer/very robust towards apple cancer. Ildrød Pigeon got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Ildrød Pigeon got scab attack on approx. 25% of the leaves/scab attack on approx. half of the leaves, scab attack on only a few apples/scab attack on almost half of the apples, fruit cancer on approx. 75% of the branches/no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on approx. 25% of the shoots/mildew attack on very few shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is yellowish pink, the blossom is early/in the middle of the season. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 7/10. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is late, to enjoy from November/December. Ildrød Pigeon is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September)/early to middle (first part of September). The apple has an average/more than an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy/dry with a medium/a weak sweetness, medium/weak acidity and much/some/none or a weak aroma. The acid content in the juice is 0,78 %. The sugar content in the juice is 13,7 %. The flesh has a bad distaste. The flesh has a bitter taste. The apple has only a small/a big tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Ildrød Pigeon is evaluated as good. The apple stores for a medium time. The external of the apple The apple is small to medium/small with a length of 60/53/51 mm and a diameter of 56/52/55 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is ellipsoid/globose conical/conical and a little asymmetrical/symmetric. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow/green. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 100 %/75 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush/a solid flush with weakly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is smooth. There are some lenticells. The lenticells are large. The colour of the lenticells appear brown/greyish white in relation to the groundcolour and brown/greyish white in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long and medium thick/thin, approx. 18/19 mm long and approx. 2,7/2,3/1,9 mm thick. The stalk is swollen. The cavity is medium deep/deep, with some russet. The basin is shallow/deep, and the eye is large/medium size and half open/closed.
