Spilmoseæbles History and usage Spilmoseæble is originally from Denmark Spilmoseæble is a seedling, of Danziger Kant x ? Spilmoseæble has been known in Denmark since 1937. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Spilmoseæble was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1938. Spilmoseæble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, sensitive towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Spilmoseæble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Spilmoseæble got scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on almost half of the shoots, flyspeck/soothy blotch on almost half of the fruits and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 1/2. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Spilmoseæble is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September). The apple has only a little/an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium/a weak sweetness, medium acidity and none or a weak/some aroma. The acid content in the juice is 0,64 %. The sugar content in the juice is 12,5 %. The apple has only a small tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Spilmoseæble is evaluated as medium good/not so good. The external of the apple The apple is small to medium with a length of 41 mm and a diameter of 55 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat/flat-globose and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 50 % of the apple. It forms a a solid flush with strongly defined stripes/a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is greasy. The colour of the lenticells appear white in relation to the groundcolour and greyish white/lightbrown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is very long and thin, approx. 21 mm long and approx. 1,5 mm thick. The cavity is medium deep, with a complete cover of russet. The basin is shallow, and the eye is large and half open. The basin is none or very small ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube. The diameter of the core is approx. 24mm. The core fill out approx. 0,44 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are large and dark brown. The skin is thick and the fruit flesh has a yellowish colour. The flesh is hard/medium firm with a medium fine texture. The flesh has no/a medium tendency to browning when cut.
