Hyltofte æbles History and usage Hyltofte æble is originally from Denmark from Lolland from Hyldtofte ved Rødby Hyltofte æble is a seedling, The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Hyltofte æble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The yield is low. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, sensitive towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Hyltofte æble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Hyltofte æble got scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on a little more than half of the shoots, flyspeck/soothy blotch on approx. 25 % fruits and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season/early. The flowers are large with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 2/7. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Hyltofte æble is mature for harvesting early (last part of August). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, weak acidity and some aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Hyltofte æble is evaluated as good. The external of the apple The apple is big The shape is globose conical/conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is red. The covercolour covers approx. 75 % of the apple. It forms a a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is waxy. There are only few/some lenticells. The lenticells are large. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted at the base of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other. The skin is thin and the fruit flesh has a white colour. The flesh is soft with a fine texture. The flesh has a medium tendency to browning when cut.
