Sukkeræbles History and usage Sukkeræble is originally from Denmark Sukkeræble is a seedling, Sukkeræble has been known in Denmark since 1923. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Sukkeræble was recommended for growing in Denmark latest in year 1940. The apple is a cider apple. Sukkeræble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Sukkeræble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Sukkeræble got scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, no shoots with mildew, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is yellowish pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are small with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 1/36. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Sukkeræble is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September)/early (last part of August). The apple has only a little attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a strong sweetness, weak acidity and some aroma. Smager af melon. The apple has only a small tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Sukkeræble is evaluated as good. The external of the apple The apple is small to medium The shape is flat-globose conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour covers approx. 0 % of the apple. The surface of the skin is russeted. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted at the base of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube. The pips are medium sized and brown. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a white colour. The flesh is hard with a fine texture. The flesh has a weak tendency to browning when cut.
