Terndrup Æbles History and usage Terndrup Æble is originally from Denmark from central Jutland from Terndrup ved Hobro Terndrup Æble is a seedling, formed 1850. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Terndrup Æble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup/Randers Regnskov. The tree The yield is high/medium. The cultivar is sensitive towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Terndrup Æble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Terndrup Æble got scab attack on almost half of the leaves, scab attack on only a few apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, no shoots with mildew, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots/older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is light pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 7/20. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Terndrup Æble is mature for harvesting early to middle (first part of September). The apple has a not very/more than an average attractive appearance. The flesh is dry with a weak sweetness, medium acidity and much/none or a weak aroma. The apple has a medium tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Terndrup Æble is evaluated as not so good/medium good. The external of the apple The apple is medium to big/big with a length of 65 mm and a diameter of 71 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat-globose conical and a little asymmetrical/very asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is orange/red. The covercolour covers approx. 25 %/50 % of the apple. It forms a a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is smooth/waxy. There are some lenticells. The lenticells are medium sized. The colour of the lenticells appear greyish white in relation to the groundcolour and greyish white in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is medium size and thick, approx. 9 mm long and approx. 3,3 mm thick. The cavity is medium deep, without russet. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is funnel-shaped and the stamens are inserted near the margin/in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube/end at the margin of the tube. The core is onion shaped/obloid. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look half open. The diameter of the core is approx. 29mm. The core fill out approx. 0,41 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are medium sized and brown. The skin is medium thick/thin and the fruit flesh has a white colour. The flesh is medium firm/soft with a medium fine texture. The flesh has a strong/a medium tendency to browning when cut.
